As a current student of PGP-DSBA or PGP-AIML, am I eligible to apply for the Master of Data Science (Global) program?
Current learners of PGP-DSBA or PGP-AIML should first complete their respective programs before commencing the masters degree. Although, you can start your application for the Master of Data Science (Global) program in advance to secure your seat in a cohort of your choice. Since there is a limited number of seats for every cohort, we recommend you apply in advance to secure your seat in the cohort starting right after you graduate from PGP-DSBA or PGP-AIML.
Can I commence the masters program right after graduating from PGP-DSBA or PGP-AIML?
You do not need to maintain a gap between your graduation from PGP-DSBA/PGP-AIML and the masters program. Once graduated, you will be eligible to start your learning journey in the Master of Data Science (Global) program. This way, you can complete your PGP and master's degree in an overall span of 24 months. i.e. the first 12 months spent in pursuing the PGP-DSBA/PGP-AIML and the next 12 in pursuing the master's program.
Do I need a GRE/GMAT score to apply to this master's program?
No GRE/GMAT score is required to apply to the masters program. The only eligibility criteria for admission are:
- Applicants must meet Deakin’s minimum English Language requirement.
- Candidates should have a bachelor's degree (minimum 3-year degree program) in a related discipline OR a bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 2 years of work experience.
- Candidates should have completed either PGP-DSBA or PGP-AIML
Is this master's degree equivalent to a full-time master's degree taken on campus?
While in terms of curriculum design, degree, and access to university resources, this online masters degree is the same as an on-campus program, the key difference comes in how the curriculum is delivered. Classroom-based learning relies on more in-person interactions where students attend lectures in a classroom, interact with faculty over office hours, have study sessions with TAs, etc. In an online program, all this interaction shifts so that it happens over the internet. Thus, an online program offers more convenience, flexibility, and safety (by providing social distancing) compared to a classroom program.
The online masters degree programs are much more affordable compared to on-campus programs, and the student also saves on housing and the opportunity cost of not working for a year.
Will I be receiving credit points for PR on pursuing the Master of Data Science (Global) program?
Yes, you will earn credit points as part of this master's program. To earn a masters degree from Deakin University, a learner needs a total of 12 credit points. The university evaluated the PGP-DSBA and PGP-AIML curriculum and considered it to be equivalent to 6 credit points. You can get the other 6 points by completing this 12-month masters program from Deakin University.
Will I be able to pursue a Ph.D. post-completion of this masters program?
Yes, you will be eligible to pursue a Ph.D. post attaining the masters degree from Deakin University.
What is the time commitment required for this masters program?
